Dean/Cas
Is it possible the writers accidentally wrote the greatest love story on TV ever without actually noticing?
Because sometimes I wonder.

I dunno, did anyone else get the feeling that last night’s episode was a kind-of-but-not-really subtle commentary from Ben Edlund about everything that’s happened to Cas? It felt pretty snarky in places, like when Cas was holding up the Sorry box, and the end when he’s like “always happy to bleed for the winchesters”
ahh, i’m not the only one who thinks that ben took all the shitty stuff and tried to make it work, only to realise that there’s no way of making it hurt even more?
it’s like he’s drawn a bunch of huge-ass arrows that say THIS IS WHERE YOU WENT WRONG.
It did. It’s why I’m of the opinion that the whole thing was set to extreme and an exaggeration. Dean’s been an ass and a jerk a thousand times, and Sam’s been given some saintly light this season but he’s been just as bad when it came to some Winchester Needs (To Get Things Done and Win), but last night totally pushed it because of Castiel’s status as “insane”.
The episode felt like it was designed to show the contrast between Winchesters and the rest of the Supernatural Creatures. Supernatural beings were looking out for themselves too, the Leviathans have fucked up their lives just as much but they’re done blaming Castiel. Now it’s just “We’re so few”. You get one angel ready to kill Cas for that pain, and one angel wanting him to go home, then a demon defending Cas because she’s useful to him.
All the while the Winchesters stood there and asked for more and very angry (and entitled -“owed”-) about it, until Castiel’s sarcastic blood letting. The episode felt like the fourth wall breaking, the show mocking itself.
And knowing how much Edlund likes Castiel’s character, to see that it’s in his episode where Castiel left the chessboard on his own, makes me think that was Edlund bleeding all over the place with his personal commentary.
